Being a bridesmaid is an honor – but being a bridesmaid can be expensive. In fact, recent statistics estimate that between the dress, travel, gifts, and accessories, a bridesmaid may spend up to $1600. Consider these ideas to help control the costs for your bridal party:
- Select color swatches (think Home Depot paint aisle!) and let your bridal party choose their dresses based on their budget. If that’s too much freedom, select several dresses you’d be happy with in various price points and let your bridesmaids choose the dress they can afford.
- If your heart is set on a pricey bridesmaid dress and you’ve got the funds to do it, consider paying for bridesmaid dresses as your gift to them, or alternatively – purchase their shoes and accessories.
- If your bridesmaids need to travel to be a part of your wedding, consider paying their hotel costs.
If these are not options, and your friend simply cannot afford to be a part of your day, be gracious if she tells you that she can’t do it. As important as your wedding day is, friendships last far longer. Let her support you in another way and celebrate in the way she can afford.
